Armando Hernández pitched three seasons in the San Francisco Giants chain. In 2001, he was 5-3 with a 3.48 ERA for the DSL Giants. Coming stateside in 2002, he went 4-3 with a 4.18 ERA with the AZL Giants, fanning 29 in 28 innings. He fell to 0-1, 4.24 for the 2003 AZL Giants to end his US career.

In the 2007 Pan American Games, Armando turned in a gem against the Dominican national team, which had 7 former major league position players. Hernández allowed four hits (and six walks) in 8 1/3 shutout innings for the win; it helped his country take home the Bronze Medal.

During the 2008 Americas Baseball Cup, the right-hander was 2-0 with a 2.31 ERA to help Nicaragua win a spot in the 2009 Baseball World Cup; his wins came over the host Venezuelan national team and Aruba. Armando led Nicaragua in wins and tied for the tourney lead in that department.
