Arlington is located in north-eastern Texas, between Fort Worth, TX to the west, and Dallas, TX to the East. It is home to the University of Texas at Arlington. The first ballpark there that the Texas Rangers played in was called Arlington Stadium, and had been previously used by the minor-league Dallas-Fort Worth Spurs. The Rangers currently occupy Ameriquest Field there, which originally was called the Ballpark in Arlington. Arlington is a huge city, and its original population growth was largely due to being the home of the University of Texas at Arlington, and Six Flags Over Texas, which is an amusement park that opened in the early 1960's, and one of the first of its kind. When the Rangers moved there, the city continued to grow, and another amusement park opened, which is a water-park, adjacent to Six Flags. That park is now owned by Six Flags. The Dallas Cowboys currently, as of 2007 are building their new stadium in Arlington and the city is sure to grow even more. The city's initial growth was mostly due to efforts by the famous Arlington Mayor, Tom Vandergriff, who is said to be responsible for getting the Washington Senators to relocate there.
