The Arizona Winter League is an independent winter league that takes place in Yuma, AZ. The league, which is affiliated with the Golden Baseball League, has it's games hosted at Yuma's Desert Sun Stadium and it's surrounding fields. The league debuted in 2007, and has seen two of its alumni from that season reach the Major Leagues (through 2009), with Sergio Romo pitching for the Giants and Scott Richmond for the Blue Jays. The league had added intrigue during its 2010 season with teenage knuckleballer Eri Yoshida, who became the first professional female player in her native Japan last season, participating in hopes of drawing interest from American teams.
