Mired in a long losing streak, the Anniston Rams put local businessman Marvin Fowler in the manager's spot for a game on July 3, 1950 after Fowler had complained about the team's performance. However a car crash at 4pm that day killed player Tony Smeraglia and seriously injured manager Lou Bevil. As a result the game was cancelled. Dick Wentworth took over as manager the next day, depriving Fowler his chance to manage the team.
