Angel Cuan made his debut for the Panamanian national team after having won one minor league game.

Cuan was 1-8 for the VSL Mets in 2008 but struck out 74 while walking 11 in 72 innings. He had a 3.13 ERA. He tied for the Venezuelan Summer League lead in losses but also led the loop in strikeouts. In the 2008 Americas Baseball Cup, the southpaw had a 4.05 ERA in three relief appearances, striking out 6 but walking 5 in 6 2/3 IP. He was on Panama's preliminary roster for the 2009 World Baseball Classic and posted a 27.00 ERA in the Classic.
