A native of Bowling Green, OH, Andy Tracy played both baseball and football at Bowling Green High School and Bowling Green State University. Tracy was an excellent football player, and was named all-state as a high school punter in 1991. He went on to star as a third baseman and punter with the BGSU Falcons before turning pro as a baseball player.

Tracy is one of at least three NCAA Division I-A football punters to play Major League Baseball. Chris Jelic and Darin Erstad are among the others.
