[edit] Biographical Information
Andy Kosco played 10 seasons in the majors, split among seven teams.
Signed by the Detroit Tigers in 1959, he came to the majors with the 1965 Minnesota Twins, who won the 1965 American League pennant with 102 victories. Kosco appeared in 23 games (mostly in right field), but did not appear in post-season play. He had had a great season in the minors that year with Denver.
After three years with the Twins, he became a regular with the 1968 New York Yankees, playing alongside Roy White and Joe Pepitone in the outfield. It was the heart of the second dead-ball era, and Kosco's .240 batting average was far above the Yankee team average of .214.
1969 found him as the regular right fielder for the 1969 Dodgers, hitting .248 on a team that hit .254. His 19 homers and 74 RBI led the team.
In 1971 he became a regular outfielder with the 1971 Brewers, while in 1972 he played with both the 1972 Angels and 1972 Red Sox, where he was a couple years younger than fellow outfielder Carl Yastrzemski.
In 1973 he slugged .568 in 118 at-bats for the division-winning 1973 Reds, and hit .300 in post-season play. He closed out his major league career in 1974.
He is the father of former minor league baseball player Bryn Kosco.
He studied law during off-seasons while in the majors, but after his baseball days went into insurance.
In 1975 he was interviewed for the Youngstown State University Oral History Program. interview
