Andy Anderson was signed out high school in Silverdale, Washington, in 1940 for the St. Louis Browns by Jack Fournier. In 1941 he played for the Paragould Browns in the Class D Northeast Arkansas League and in 1942 was with the Springfield Browns in the Class B Three-I League. After the 1942 season he went in the Army and on July 4, 1943 was playing for an Army all star team against the Pasco Naval Air Station in Seattle. Anderson was captured by the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge and suffered a debilitating case of frostbite. His weight dropped from 185 pounds to 125 pounds while in a POW camp. After returning to the US he was sent by the army to Santa Barbara, CA to recuperate and gain his strength. In 1946, he was ready to play baseball again and was with the San Antonio Missions in the Class AA Texas League for the next two seasons. In 1948 and 1949 he played in 122 games as an infielder for the Browns. In 1950 he was back with San Antonio and continued to play in the minor leagues until 1953.
