Andres Blanco, although he did not turn 23 years until the 2007 season has started, had already played 3 seasons in the major leagues with the Kansas City Royals by that time. When he made his debut, he was the youngest position player ever for the Royals.
Blanco was born in Venezuela and was signed as a free agent in 2000. He was spotted as a rising talent in spite of the rap that he was "slow, small, and skinny". He started in the USA rookie league in 2002. In the minors, he showed relatively little power, with only 6 home runs in 405 games, batting .247 and stealing 46 bases.
