[edit] Biographical Information
Andres Blanco, although he will not be 23 years old until the 2007 major league season has started, has already played 3 seasons in the major leagues with the Kansas City Royals. A middle infielder, he has played 55 games at shortstop and 31 games at second base in the majors. When he made his debut, he was the youngest position player ever for the Royals.
Blanco was born in Venezuela and was signed as a free agent in 2000. He was spotted as a rising talent in spite of the rap that he was "slow, small, and skinny". He started in the USA rookie league in 2002. So far, in the minors, he has shown relatively little power, with only 6 home runs in 405 games. He has batted .247 and stolen 46 bases.
In the majors, he has a higher batting average of .252. In 226 at-bats, he has hit 4 triples. He has stolen one base and been caught 4 times.
Sources say he weighs 150 or 155 pounds.
During the last month of the season he was injured and had to have shoulder surgery. He also suffered a knee injury in 2005.
