  • Amherst College played in the first college baseball game ever on July 1, 1859, beating Williams College 73-32. The school is where, in 1942, Ted Williams and four other major league ballplayers went for preliminary ground school for naval aviation. The most prominent player from Amherst College in recent years has been John Cerutti.

The school's unofficial mascot, Lord Jeffs, was retired in 2016 due to controversy over the propriety of honoring Lord Jeffrey Amherst.
