[edit] Biographical Information

Amado Samuel's relatively brief major league career wasn't particularly distinguished - he hit just .215 over 3 seasons. However, he holds one minor distinction. He was the first major leaguer from the town of San Pedro de Macoris, in the Dominican Republic, a relatively small city (pop. 125,000) fabled for having produced a disproportionately large number of big-league ball-players (over 70 as of 2008).

In making his debut on April 10, 1962, Samuel beat fellow San Pedro de Macoris native Manny Jimenez to the big leagues by exactly one day.

Samuel played in the minors from 1958-67, including parts of four years in the International League.
