Alfredo Amézaga hit .391/.440/.391 as the leadoff man for his hometown Yaquis de Obregón in the 2008 Caribbean Series. He was 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts and scored five runs in six games but failed to make the Series All-Star team when Tony Pena Jr. was chosen as the shortstop.
Amézaga was a center fielder for Mexico in the 2009 World Baseball Classic, going 2 for 5 with 2 runs and a solo homer (off Craig Anderson against Australia but was injured and missed the rest of the Classic, being replaced on the roster by Cristhian Presichi.
