Alex Gonzalez was acquired by the Toronto Blue Jays in November 2009 after the Boston Red Sox declined their 2010 contract options on Gonzalez and Jason Varitek. The Red Sox acquired shortstop Gonzalez from the Cincinnati Reds for minor league infielder Kris Negron and cash on August 14, 2009. In 2009, his salary was $5,375,000.
