Alessio Angelucci made his minor league debut in 2008. Angelucci went 1-1 with a 5.13 ERA in 14 games (6 starts) for the AZL Padres, walking 23 in 33 1/3 innings. He was on South Africa's roster for the 2009 World Baseball Classic. The 20-year-old allowed 3 hits, 3 walks and 3 runs (2 earned) in 2 1/3 IP versus Mexico. After two strong innings, he unraveled in the 7th, letting six of seven runners reach before being relieved by Jared Elario.
