[edit] Biographical Information
Infielder Alan Storke played four seasons in the majors, mostly with the Pittsburgh Pirates, during the time of Honus Wagner. He played 91 games at first base, an important defensive position at the time, 89 at third base, 50 at shortstop (mostly with the Cardinals) and 12 at second base.
Before coming to the majors in 1906 he had been at Amherst College in 1903-06 and played for Providence and Auburn in 1906.
He was pretty consistent with the bat, hitting in the .250's during all four of his years with the Pirates. When he was traded to the 1909 St. Louis Cardinals in August 1909, they moved him to shortstop and his batting average went up to .282 with them.
He was traded again in February 1910 but died in March 1910.
He died at age 25 following a lung operation.
