Alan Butts is a coach for the Atlanta Braves baseball team. He currently wears number 55.
In 1992, Butts joined the Braves. His role currently is to coordinate the scouting reports of all Braves' opponents as well as take part in other pre-game preparations. He serves as a liaison between the Braves' advance scout and the team itself, helping the team prepare for each series. During each game, he aids the bullpen coach and pitchers in the bullpen. He has also served as the team's bullpen catcher.
He served on Bobby Cox's All-Star Game coaching staff in 2000, also pitching in the Home Run Derby.
While attending Valdosta State University, Butts received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Public Relations and Speech Communications. While with Valdosta, he played under coach Tommy Thomas.
He currently resides in Newnan, GA. His nephew, Brett Butts, was drafted by the Atlanta Braves and pitches in their farm system.
