[edit] Biographical Information

Al Yeargin was a hard-luck pitcher who didn't deserve his 1-12 lifetime record. In 1922, when he went 0-1 at age 20, he had an ERA of 1.29 in 7 innings. In 1924, when he went 1-11, his ERA was above the team ERA, but not by a large amount. His 5.09 ERA that year was better than that of regulars Joe Genewich (10-19 with a 5.21 ERA), Tim McNamara (8-12 with a 5.18 ERA), and Red Lucas (1-4 in 27 games with a 5.16 ERA). But Yeargin never pitched again in the major leagues, while Genewich, McNamara, and Lucas did.

He wasn't named "Al" because his name was Allen or Alvin. His middle name was Almond.

He died at age 36.
