Al Jones is the only player from Alcorn State University to appear in the major leagues as of 2006. He pitched in 27 games over 3 years (1983-1985) with the Chicago White Sox. He was 2-1 with 5 saves and a 3.77 ERA.

He is the same age as teammates Harold Baines, Richard Dotson and Britt Burns.

He went 11-1 with Appleton in 1983.

He played in the CPBL and also was pitching coach for one of the teams.
