Al Baker, who was a 32-year-old rookie at the major league level, was one of the older players on the 1938 Red Sox, for whom he pitched three games.
His teammates included Jimmie Foxx, Bobby Doerr, Lefty Grove, Joe Cronin and Moe Berg. The team finished second behind the 1938 Yankees.
Al broke into pro ball with a 19-5 record for Decatur in 1930. Pitching in the minors during the 1930's, he was with Dallas for part of 1934 and then from 1935-38. After his major league stint in 1938, he pitched in the minors through 1941, managing at Vicksburg where he played part of 1941.
