[edit] Biographical Information

Catcher Al Montgomery played one season in the major leagues, for the 1941 Boston Braves at the age of 20. The Braves at the time were managed by Casey Stengel, long before he became famous as a manager for the New York Yankees and New York Mets. The two catchers ahead of Montgomery were Ray Berres and Phil Masi. Berres was sold by the Braves to the New York Giants in February 1942, and the next day the Braves bought Ernie Lombardi.

Montgomery was killed in 1942 in a car crash while heading north from spring training.
