Formed in 1936, the Águilas Cibaeñas, frequently referred to simply as Águilas (Eagles), have been one of the dominant teams in Dominican League history. Stationed out of Santiago, they play their home games in Estadio Cibao. The Águilas won Dominican League titles 20 times through 2008-2009, tied with archrival Licey Tigers for the most. The Eagles were victorious in 1952, 1965, 1967, 1972, 1975, 1976, 1978, 1979, 1986, 1987, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2008. They also have won five Caribbean World Series - the 1997 Caribbean Series, 1998 Caribbean Series, 2001 Caribbean Series, 2003 Caribbean Series and 2007 Caribbean Series. Numerous major league stars have played on the team through the years.
