Adam Peterson was signed as a 6th round pick in the 1984 amateur draft by the Chicago White Sox and scout Tom Roberts. He played in 5 seasons in the major leagues, four for the White Sox and one for the San Diego Padres. He made his debut at age 21 on December 19, 1987 in a start against the Seattle Mariners. He did not pitch well, going 4 innings, giving up 8 hits, 6 earned runs, 3 walks and struck out one. He had similar cups of coffee in 1988 and 1989 with the White Sox. In 1990, he was in the White Sox starting rotation between June 7 and August 9. He finished out the year with 7 relief appearances. His totals for the season were 2-2 with a 4.55 ERA and 1.36 WHIP. In 1991, he was traded to the San Diego Padres and started 11 games. His totals for 1991 were a 3-4 with a 4.45 ERA and 1.43 WHIP. He never recorded a hit in 13 major league at bats.
