Abraham Atencio has pitched at times for the Panamanian national team. In the 2005 Baseball World Cup, he had a 2.20 ERA and allowed 5 hits in 12 1/3 innings. He allowed one run in 6 innings against Nicaragua and two runs in 6 against the Cuban national team, battling Yuniesky Maya and Pedro Luis Lazo evenly; the bullpen got the win against Nicaragua but blew the game against Cuba.
In the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games, Atencio allowed 2 runs (1 earned) in 6 2/3 IP. He gave up 14 baserunners and 7 runs in 5 innings in the 2006 COPABE qualifiers for the 2008 Olympics. In the 2007 Baseball World Cup, the southpaw had one start, allowing two runs in six innings in a win over the Mexican national team and Emil Kamar.
Atencio went 1-1 with a 5.23 ERA in the 2008 Americas Baseball Cup, beating Colombia but getting roughed up by Puerto Rico. Atencio was on Panama's roster for the 2009 World Baseball Classic but did not pitch in the event.
