[edit] Biographical Information

Aaron McNeal was the player the Houston Astros protected on their 40 man roster instead of Johan Santana during the 1999-2000 offseason. McNeal was a 21 year old first baseman who was coming off a season where he hit .310 with 38 homers and 131 RBI's in the Class A Midwest League. He followed that up with an .820 OPS in the Class AA Texas League the next season. During spring training in 2002, the Astros traded him to the San Diego Padres for shortstop Cristian Berroa. He subsequently bounced around through four additional organizations and last played in 2005 with the AA Tulsa Drillers.
