If 500 home runs is the gold standard among baseball sluggers, then 600 homers is the platinum standard. Throughout MLB history, there have only been 8 members of the 600 home run club. Prior to the 2002 season, there was only 3 players who had hit 600 homers. On August 21th, 1931, Babe Ruth became the charter member of the 600 home run club. The Babe was also the first American League player to hit 600 homers. Willie Mays became the charter member of the 600 home run club for the National League on September 22nd, 1969.

Alex Rodriguez is the youngest player in history to hit 600 home runs; he did so at 35 years, 8 days old. A-Rod is also the youngest player in American League history to hit 600 homers. Hank Aaron is the youngest 600 home run hitter in National League history; he did so at the age of 37 years, 80 days old. Jim Thome is the oldest player in MLB history to hit 600 homers, finally reaching the mark at 40 years, 353 days old. The quickest player in Major League history to hit 600 home runs is Babe Ruth; he hit his 600th homer in his 2,044th game and his 6,821st at-bat. The Babe also holds the record in the American League for both categories. Barry Bonds was the quickest National League player in history to reach 600 home runs; he did so in his 2,395th game and his 8,211th at-bat. Hank Aaron took the longest time in history to hit 600 home runs; he reached the mark in his 2,592nd game and his 10,009th at bat.
