The single-game record of 29 runs had been shared by the 1950 Boston Red Sox and 1955 Chicago White Sox. In the first game, Jarrod Saltalamacchia (5 R, 7 RBI, 2 HR), Ramon Vazquez (2 HR, 7 RBI), David Murphy (5 H, 5 R), Marlon Byrd (grand slam) and Travis Metcalf (grand slam) helped pace the attack, but every Ranger scored at least once. Metcalf, just recalled from AAA, drove in eight runs on the day.
