1999 Holland Series
From BR Bullpen
The 1999 Holland Series marked the start of one of the great dynasties in Hoofdklasse history. Neptunus won the first of seven straight Holland Series, the first team to do so. They had not won the regular-season title, which went to Kinheim, but Kinheim fell in the playoffs. In the Series, Neptunus topped HCAW, the defending champions. Neptunus was managed by former major leaguer Robert Eenhoorn.
In game one, on September 25, 1999, Neptunus won 12-10 with a 18-hit attack. C Johnny Balentina went 4 for 5 with 2 runs and 2 RBI, DH Marcel Kruyt 3 for 4 with 3 runs and 2 RBI, 1B Percy Isenia 3 for 5 with a run and RBI and 3B Ron Agterberg 3 for 5 with 2 runs and 5 RBI as part of the high-powered offense. Erik Remmerswaal got the win over Patrick De Lange. 2B Lars Koehorst drove in 5 runs for the losing hosts, homering twice; it would be 16 years until Bryan Engelhardt became the next player with a multi-homer game in a Holland Series.
The Series resumed on October 3 with Neptunus having a much easier time with Lobbezzoo in a 7-2 romp; Brauckmiller got the win. SS Robert Eenhoorn (1 for 3, 2 R, 3 RBI) and C Balentina (3 for 4, 3 RBI) led Neptunus.
