[edit] History, Comments, Contributions
The Seattle Mariners 1995 season was their 19th since the franchise's creation, and the team ended the season finishing 1st in the American League West, finishing with a record of 79-66. After making an amazing comeback from 12½ games back in the division on August 20 to steal the division title from the California Angels in a one-game playoff, they defeated the New York Yankees in the best-of-five American League Division Series after being down 2 games to 0. They advanced into the 1995 American League Championship Series, where they succumbed in 6 games to the Cleveland Indians. The success, however, spurred the funding for a new stadium, Safeco Field, which opened in July 1999.
