The 1986 White Sox hit the skids with their worst season since 1976. A bad start led to Tony LaRussa's firing. After Jim Fregosi took over the Sox won 11 of 15 but sputtered the rest of the season. The only highlights were John Cangelosi stealing 50 bases and Joe Cowley's no-hitter on September 19.

It was the year that Carlton Fisk was placed in the outfield to start the season, something the fans did not take to, and which didn't seem to get another valuable bat in the lineup. It was also a year in which 22-year-old Ozzie Guillen had an awesomely bad OBP of .265 and a SLG of .311. His Adjusted OPS+ of 55 was tied with that of Joel Skinner for the White Sox, who hit only .201 but supplied a bit of power before he was traded, along with Ron Kittle and Wayne Tolleson to the Yankees in mid-season.
