The 1982 Chicago Cubs bullpen only had 20 saves, but four pitchers on their staff went on to be All-Star closers. Lee Smith went on to a long career as a closer with the Cubs and several other teams and ended his career as the all time save leader with 478. Willie Hernandez saved 32 games in 1984 with the Detroit Tigers to win the American League Most Valuable Player Award and Cy Yound Award. Bill Caudill saved 36 games for the Oakland Athletics that same season and made the All-Star team. Jay Howell went on to replace Caudill as Oakland's closer in 1985 and ended his career with 155 saves.
