On July 12, a "Disco Demolition Night" promotion between the games of a Chicago White Sox doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers got out of control. The Sox had to forfeit the second game. Less than a month later, on August 2, manager Don Kessinger was fired and replaced by Iowa Oaks manager Tony LaRussa.
