Both National League Rookie of the Year Award co-winners Butch Metzger (RHP) San Diego Padres and Pat Zachry (RHP) Cincinnati Reds were not selected to the team. The American League Rookie of the Year Award Mark Fidrych of the Detroit Tigers was selected as the team's right-handed pitcher.
