[edit] History, Comments, Contributions

The 1965 Milwaukee Braves team was the last Braves team to play in Milwaukee. The franchise relocated to Atlanta, GA before the 1966 season, becoming the Atlanta Braves. The Braves had the lowest average attendance in the National League in 1965.

The Braves led the league as late as August 20th, but they faltered down the stretch and finished fifth.

Phil Niekro was a rookie in 1965. The 1965 season was the first for the Braves without Warren Spahn since World War II. Spahn had been sold to the New York Mets the previous November. Eddie Mathews registered his 2000th career hit in 1965.

Mathews, Hank Aaron, Mack Jones, Joe Torre and Felipe Alou each posted more than 20 home runs, and the team led the league in homers with 196. Aaron led the league in doubles with 40.
