Led by the AL MVP, third baseman Brooks Robinson, the 1964 Baltimore Orioles held on to first place in the American League through much of the summer. They were eventually passed by the New York Yankees in mid-September and finished in third place behind the Yankees and Chicago White Sox.
In addition to Robinson, who hit .318 with 28 home runs and a league-best 118 RBIs, the Orioles had two more All-Stars: shortstop Luis Aparicio, who led the AL with 57 stolen bases, and first baseman Norm Siebern, who hit 12 homers. Additionally, outfielder Boog Powell hit 39 home runs. On the mound, 19-year-old rookie Wally Bunker paced the staff with 19 wins, while Milt Pappas won 16 and Robin Roberts won 13.
