1962 European Championship
From BR Bullpen
The 1962 European Championship was held from July 21 through July 29 , 1962, in Amsterdam.
Netherlands went unbeaten as the hosts were 5-0, their closest wins being two five-run decisions. They had now won all five European Championships they had entered.
Italy won its third straight Silver Medal at 3-1. Their lone loss was 9-4 to the Netherlands.
Spain won Bronze at 3-2.
Belgium ranked 4th at 1-3, losing to the top three teams but beating #5 Germany.
Germany won 2 and lost 2 to finish 5th.
France was 1-3, placing 6th, their only win coming by a 14-11 margin over Sweden. They were losing 30-0 to the Germans in their match-up when one of the French players left the field in a rage over a disagreement with the captain of the squad. That left France with only 8 players and they were forced to forfeit, so the final official score was a much happier 9-0.
Sweden lost all four games.
