1962 Central American and Caribbean Games
From BR Bullpen
The 1962 Central American and Caribbean Games were held from August 11 through August 26, 1962 in Kingston, Jamaica.
Dominican Republic won Gold at 4-1. It was their first Central American and Caribbean Games Gold Medal in baseball; it would be 20 years before they duplicated the feat.
Puerto Rico claimed Silver at 3-2.
Mexico won Bronze, going 3-2. Santiago Vazquez led in wins (2-0) and ERA (0.00).
Cuba had a disappointing 2-3 finish, the only time in the 20th Century they did not get a Medal in baseball in the Central American and Caribbean Games. They were still rebuilding from the Cuban revolution but had several key contributors from future events in place. They were guided by former major leaguer Gil Torres.
Venezuela also went 2-3. A. Mendez led all hitters with a .500 average.
Colombia was last at 1-4.
