1954 Central American and Caribbean Games

The 1954 Central American and Caribbean Games were held from March 6 through March 20, 1954 in Mexico City. For the first time, the Cuban national team did not play in a Central American and Caribbean Games, as MLB scouts had depleted the country's amateur talent pool considerably in the post-segregation era in baseball. As a result, only four teams participated, the smallest field since 1926.
Venezuela took advantage of Cuba's absence to take Gold for the first time, going 5-1. J. Matos of Venezuela led the tourney in average (.455), runs (9, tied for the most) and RBI (10, tied for the most). Dario Rubenstein tied for the most runs (9) as did E. Reveron, who also tied for the RBI lead (10). P. Colina stole the most bases (4). Angel Guillen led in record (3-0) and ERA (1.29).
Mexico took home Silver at 4-2 as the host nation. Their top players were A. Rios (possibly Alfredo Rios) (9 R) and R. Caballero (presumably Ramiro Caballero), who tied for the most RBI (10). C. Duarte (possibly Carlos Duarte) hit the most home runs (3).
Dominican Republic only went 3-3 but still got the Bronze.
Nicaragua lost all 6 of its games and was the only team that did not get a medal.
