The 29th National High School Baseball Championship featured a total of 1125 schools competing for 19 spots in the finals at Koshien. In the championship game Kokura Central High School (Fukuoka) defeated Gifu High School (Gifu) by a score of 6 - 3.

The 19th National High School Baseball Invitational Tournament featured 26 schools competing in the tournament at Koshien. In the championship game Tokushima High School (Tokushima) defeated Ogura Central High School (Fukuoka) by a score of 3 - 1.
