Satchel Paige threw his second career no-hitter on July 4 in Greenlee Field in Pittsburgh as the Crawfords beat the Homestead Grays 4-0. Paige struck out 17 in the victory.
Four days later on July 8 in Chicago Paige and the Crawfords were victims of a no-hitter thrown by the American Giants' Willie "Sug" Cornelius. However, the game was scoreless after nine, and the American Giants broke up Cornelius' gem in the 10th with five hits and three runs. Paige won the game 3-0.
