The 1928 International League season saw an amazing comeback fall short. The Buffalo Bisons were in 7th place, 12 games out, in mid-July, then won 51 of their next 77 to move a game ahead of Rochester, only to see Rochester win 5 of the final 6. Buffalo finished second despite being zero games back in the standings, due to Rochester having a winning percentage .001 higher. Dale Alexander became the first Triple Crown winner in the IL. It was also the last season Jack Dunn guided Baltimore, after a very successful 24-year run.
