After the 1914 season, the Brooklyn Tip-Tops purchased star outfielder Benny Kauff from the Indianapolis Hoosiers. In 1915, Kauff led the league with a .342 batting average and 55 stolen bases, but the Tip-Tops still finished in seventh place.
