1911 in the Negro Leagues

The six top black teams in 1911 were the New York Lincoln Giants (7-5 against other top black teams), Leland Giants (3-2), St. Louis Giants (2-1), Cuban Stars (4-4), Chicago American Giants (4-5 in their first year) and Brooklyn Royal Giants (1-4). Dick Redding (5-1 for NY) and Jose Mendez (4-0 for the Cuban team) had the best records while Jimmie Lyons of St. Louis hit .375, George Wright (NY) hit .417 and Pete Booker (NY) hit .415. Active Hall-of-Famers included Pete Hill (.244) and Rube Foster (1-2) of Chicago, Smokey Joe Williams (1-0) of the Lelands, Ben Taylor (2-0 as a pitcher, .667 as a hitter) of St. Louis, Mendez and Pop Lloyd (.360) of New York.
In exhibitions against white teams, New York went 3-1 against the Jersey City Skeeters and Walter Johnson beat New York with three major leaguers and some minor leaguers behind him.
