[edit] History, Comments, Contributions
The 1903 Boston Pilgrims won the first World Series.
The name "Pilgrims" was given to the team in later years; at the time, they were given a variety of nicknames by sportswriters and fans, but the most common was Boston Americans. The use of Boston Pilgrims did not become widespread until two years later, and was then quickly supplanted by the team's new official nickname, the Boston Red Sox.
