Guess, I won’t be using those playoff tickets after all.

2006 Stats and Updates

Filed under: News, Uncategorized — Sean @ 5:27 pm

I’m probably going to regret this, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the new stats will be up on Tuesday of next week. But don’t hold me to that. They will certainly be done next week.

AL Payrolls

Filed under: For Fun — Sean @ 12:16 pm

I am working on the 2006 stats this week and some struck me while working on the Salary data. The Yankees have the three highest paid players in the majors this year. A-Rod, Jeter, and Giambi. In the AL, they have the four highest paid, and since Abreu was added nine of the top twenty (six of the top ten) highest paid players in the AL. Also in the top ten are 1 Angel, Red Sox, White Sox and Tiger.

I’m not sure how “exclusive” everyone will consider it, but I recently sat down for an e-mail interview with ArmchairGM.com.

Forman Field Sign

Forman Field Sign

As I mentioned earlier, my hometown named the football field after my dad last weekend (Manning (IA) Bulldogs now 3-0). It was a neat event and most of the Forman clan was in town for the event. Here is a photo that might explain why they chose to name the field after him. 12 playoff appearances, 1 title (only mercy rule, 50 points, win in finals history), 1 runner-up, several other semifinalists.

Baseball-Identity.com

Andrew Kamholz has written an addictive game based on the baseball-reference.com random player tool. It strips out the player name and header info and shows their stat line and asks you to guess who the player is. You can even select a year to pick from. I’m awful at this game.

1997 Cleveland Indians Schedule, Box Scores and Splits - Baseball-Reference.com

Most of the changes on the site that I’m doing now are well in the background and will not be visible for a month or two. However, one tiny tweak that I’ve made is to add first and second half results to the team splits. Not much, but it is something.

“/lib/cpp” fails sanity check

Filed under: Admin, Tools, Uncategorized — Sean @ 10:21 am

This has little to do with the site, but I had this bug trying to install a program and I thought if anyone else had a similar issue that a search through google might bring them here.

The solution I found was to install

gcc-c++

This is support for c++ compilers in gcc. I had just gcc and that caused the configure script to belch.

Now back to your regularly scheduled program.

Superintendent Takes Flak for Calendar

Superintendent Takes Flak for Calendar

I take back anything I ever said about my hometown being a boring place to grow up.

Also, if you are near Manning Iowa this Friday night, swing by the football field. It will be easy to find, just look for the lights as you enter the town. I’m going to be there along with a lot of family members because they are naming the football field “Forman Field” after my dad, Iowa HS Hall of Fame coach, Floyd Forman. And yes, I’m pretty proud.

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

There are a ridiculous number of videos on youtube of sox fans singing Sweet Caroline. Just another sign that tv as we know it is likely dead.
