MLB Milestone Watch –

MLB Milestone Watch: Hits -

I'm a few weeks late for the countdown to Jeter's big hit, but don't miss another milestone as our Milestone Watch points out all of the batters, pitchers and fielders as they cross major statistical milestones and move up the career leaderboards. This new feature will be linked on the front page just below the standings.

Any suggested additions will be welcome. These pages should be updated daily as the site updates. Please note that we include National Association stats in our leaderboard stats. Thanks to Justin Kubatko, who had this on quite awhile ago.

For example, a recent deal we signed with team equipment personnel will allow us to soon add shoe size, hat size, and glove and bat models for all current major league players (still working on the minor leagues).

WAR Leader and Cy Young Winner in the Same Season

Posted by Neil Paine on November 19, 2010

As Andy noted yesterday, King Felix won the AL Cy Young after also leading the AL in Wins Above Replacement. I was wondering how often pitchers have pulled off this double feat of winning the CYA and the WAR crown in the same season, so I called up our year-by-year WAR leaders and cross-referenced that list with the Cy Young winners file at Here were the results:

The Problem with Fielding Percentage

Posted by Sean Forman on November 10, 2010

Citing fielding percentage as evidence of the best fielder is like saying the best quarterback is the one with the lowest interception rate, or the best basketball defender is the one with the fewest fouls.

Not making errors has value, but its far from the most important thing you can do as a defender.
