Bringing Up The Rear

Posted by Steve Lombardi on October 17, 2008

A fun list via Play Index...

The only batters in history to have 4 hits in a post-season game while batting 9th in the line-up:

                   Games Link to Individual Games
 Jose Vizcaino 1 Ind. Games
 Spike Owen 1 Ind. Games
 Adam Kennedy 1 Ind. Games
 Derek Jeter 1 Ind. Games
 Luis Alicea 1 Ind. Games

Alicea is the only one to do it in a game that his team lost.

It's funny to think of Derek Jeter batting 9th in any batting order. He was a rookie in 96, but then again, just look at the lineup for that game. My god, I forgot just how powerful a lineup that Yankee Dynasty had.

Also of note, 3 of the 5 up there (Jeter, Vizcaino, Alicea) all needed extra innings to get their hits

[...] O.K., raise your hand if you remember… …that Derek Jeter was batting 9th that day. [...]
