It was to be expected that most of these appearances would be before the DH. But it's still interesting to see that 4 of the games were in the same decade and none between 1925 and the advent of the DH nearly 50 years later.
Charley Hall also teaches us that no matter how well a pitcher helps his own cause at the plate, he still has to make a case on the mound (although most of the damage came off of Joe Wood first).
