Last night, the Mets gave up their second grand slam to a pitcher this year.

Those are the only two this year:

I had no idea that Denny Neagle hit two slams.

These are all the grand slams by pitchers going back to 1987, excluding any possible ones hit by pitchers playing positions other than P (such as, for example, PH.)

  1. The grand slam by Felix was probably the most amazing thing that has happened this year. Sure this happens occasionally, but not by an American League pitcher. They only get maybe four AB's a year. The guy has two career hits and 5 career RBI. That says nothing, of course with 9 total AB, but still.

I'm speaking as a Mariners fan of course.

  2. Go back to 1966, and you'll find the day when pitcher Tony Cloninger hit two grand slams in one game. The only pitcher to do it, and the first National League ballplayer of any kind to do it.

  3. New to this.

I've noticed you take suggestions for stats of the day. Where would I suggest something? Or do I just do it as a comment here?

  4. NickH44, On top of the bar on the side of this page there is a section that says pages. Under that heading there is a link that says suggestions.

  5. The 2002 Slam by Person was almost one of 3 home runs and 2 grand slams that day for Person. 2innings later Person came up again (for the second time that inning, actually) with the bases loaded and hit a long ball down the foul line that I remember as being no more than a few feet foul. Retro-sheet even found it noteworthy enough to mention in their recap. http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/2002/B06020PHI2002.htm
Then he hit a three run homerun a bit later on.

    That was quite a game.
