Longest runs at .400 Batting Average

Posted by Sean Forman on June 9, 2008

I've gotten a bunch of requests for this, so I'll post it here. I had completely forgotten about Nomar in 200. He finished at .372 (and finished 9th in the MVP balloting).

thank you very much for posting that. it is very useful. and very simple done. nice work!

    fascinating stuff!

  2. Baseball wasn't around in 200, though.

  3. Wow, look at Rodney Cline.

  4. kingturtle Says:

Chipper Jones is now tied for 12th on the list with June 16th.

  5. according to the games logs Brett was hitting 400 on Sept 19, also on May 24 he went 0 for 6 and was hitting 247, which means he must have about 450 for 2 1/2 to 3 months

  6. kingturtle Says:

He went 0-6 on May 21st. At that day's end he was 23 for 93 for the season (a meager .247).

On September 19th he was hitting .400. After that he went 14 for 46 (a respectable .304).

Add them together you get: 37 for 139. Deduct that from his season total of 175 for 449 and you get 138 for 310.

138 for 310 is .445, which is what he hit from May 22 to September 19th, in 77 games played.

During those 77 games played he missed 35 team games (he didn't play at all between June 11 and July 9 or between September 7 and 16).

  7. kingturtle Says:

Jones now stands at 11th on the list with a June 18th effort.
